Sky Sports has become the home of the Dream11 Indian Premier League 2020 in the UK and Ireland. The CEO of Prasar Bharati, Shashi Shekhar Vempati has personally written to the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly to grant All India Radio the radio rights for the Dream 11 IPL 2020 so that fans, who does not have access to television or the internet, can enjoy the IPL 2020 commentary via radio. Vempati said that he has written to BCCI President Sourav Ganguly to consider expanding the current MoU arrangement to include the IPL so that radio listeners get to follow the matches. Vempati fsaid that the current edition of the IPL is not a part of the MoU between BCCI and Prasar Bharati but they are keen that the BCCI expands the scope of their agreement, He added that in this coronavirus situation, it will also be in public interest.

Telecom Company Vodafone Idea recently rebranded as Vibecame the co-sponsors of the cash-rich Indian Premier League in UAE alongside Dream11. Vi has acquired the co-sponsorship rights of the live broadcast of T-20 premier league which will be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE and telecast on the Star Sports network.

Dream11 IPL 2020 will be played from 19th September and the final will be played on 10th November 2020. The 53-day tournament will witness 10-afternoon matches starting at 15:30 IST while the evening matches will start at 19:30 IST. The Governing Council also discussed the comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), which will be finalized and published in due course, including the agencies to execute and deliver a bio-secure environment for the safe and successful conduct of the IPL 2020 Season. The Governing Council also reviewed the Player Regulations for replacement player for the 2020 season. Women’s T20 Challenge will also take place in the UAE and will comprise three teams with four matches to be played during the IPL Playoff week.

The IPL Governing Council on Sunday (September 06) announced the schedule for Dream11 Indian Premier League 2020 to be held in UAE. The season will kickstart on 19th September in Abu Dhabi with a blockbuster clash between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. There will be 10 double headers with the first match starting at 3:30PM IST and 2:00PM UAE time. All evening matches will start at 7:30 PM IST and 6:00 PM UAE time. In all, 24 matches will be held in Dubai, 20 in Abu Dhabi and 12 in Sharjah. Venues for the playoffs and the Dream11 IPL 2020 final will be announced later.

Points System

  • 2 points awarded for each match won
  • 1 point per team taking part in any match with no result and any match which is tied (super over not possible or super over also tied)
  • 0 points awarded for any match lost

Playoff Matches

  1. If any of the Final, the Eliminator, Qualifier 1 or Qualifier 2 matches are tied, or there is no result then The teams shall compete in a Super Over to determine which team is the winner of the match.
  2. If conditions do not permit a Super Over within the time available to determine the winner or if the Super Over is tied then the team which finished in the higher position in the League table will be the winner of the play-off match.

Whats new in the IPL 2020

  • Concussion substitute – A batsman hit on helmet and suffering a concussion can be replaced by another batsman.
  • No-ball call by 3rd umpire (very important) – On-field umpires cannot accurately call a no-ball each and every time.
  • BCCI has announced that there will be Power Player in IPL 2020. Teams under Power Player format will announce playing 15 and not playing 11 before the match. Power Planning is basically 15 playing players in one team rather than 11. The players will easily be able to switch positions as and when required.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to reduce PL 2020 champions’ prize money. The BCCI has notified franchises that instead of a whopping Rs 20 crore, the IPL champion will now receive Rs 10 crore only. The champions will get Rs 10 crore instead of Rs 20 crore. The runners-up will get Rs 6.25 crore from earlier Rs 12.5 crore.

The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) announced CRED, a high-trust community of creditworthy individuals, merchants and institutions, will be Official Partner for the IPL beginning with the 2020 edition which will be held in the UAE from September 19th onwards. It is a three-season partnership which will see the association run through till the 2022 season.
